How does a commercial heat recovery system work?<\/b><\/p>\n

A heat recovery system can operate through a ventilation system that is placed on top of the building. Rather than simply evacuating stale air and replacing it with new air, it works by first extracting heat from the outgoing air and transferring it to the incoming air.<\/span><\/p>\n

Heat recovery ventilation operates independently of your regular heating system. In each room, there are ventilation ducts with filters that move air in and out, leading to a heat exchanger that is either located in the attic or on the roof of a building.<\/span><\/p>\n

This heat exchanger is the brains of the heat recovery system, which moves stale air through hundreds of small pipes while drawing cold air from outside into other ducts. The ducts pass next to each other without physically mixing, but heat is extracted from the stale air and transferred to the cold air, which is then returned to the pipes and the rooms. The exhaust air, minus its heat, is then expelled into the atmosphere.<\/span><\/p>\n

The technology of heat recovery systems has improved considerably over the years, and there are now systems that claim to extract up to 90% of the heat from the exhaust air and return it to the fresh air that circulates through the system again.<\/span><\/p>\n

Different systems are needed to maximize the value of energy from waste, converting it into something useful that can reduce costs and environmental impact. In all cases, heat recovery can be done through thermal wheels, hot plate technology, heat pumps or more complex industrial processes.<\/span><\/p>\n
