What is a commercial condensing boiler?
A condensing boiler recovers the heat produced by the water vapor contained in the combustion products of natural gas. In a “standard” boiler, there is heat loss since the fumes and the water vapor contained in these fumes escape into the atmosphere. The condensing boiler recovers some of this heat energy by condensing the water vapor in the exhaust fumes. This water vapor passes through a condenser exchanger: the vapor then sublimates into the water and releases heat which is immediately transmitted to the hot water circuit of your commercial or industrial building. This type of boiler avoids energy losses because it makes the most of them. These high performances allow for lower energy consumption and can result in significant savings.
What are the pros of a commercial condensing boiler?
The use of a condensing boiler allows you to increase efficiency by about 20% compared to a “conventional” boiler. It also offers the possibility of achieving energy savings of up to 30% compared to a boiler that is more than 15 years old, 15% to 20% savings compared to a recent standard boiler, and 5% savings compared to a low-temperature boiler. This type of installation is very environmentally friendly and represents a considerable saving in fuel, and therefore less emission of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides released into the atmosphere.
What are the cons of a commercial condensing boiler?
The condensation process can produce acidic waste that is not present in conventional boilers. This requires the installation of a fluid draining system. This drain must be installed on the drain line, either indoors or outdoors. If it is external, the discharge point must be insulated to prevent frost damage during the coldest months. In addition, because of the steam produced by the exhaust pipe, the boiler location must be carefully planned, which reduces flexibility. When installing a new condensing boiler, flushing and cleaning of the system may be required, which must be added to the existing costs of a replacement. Finally, in order to ensure the convection flow of the exhaust gases, a fan is required. This adds to the complexity of the mechanism and installation of your boiler.
